Eyes Wide Open (by Ted Dekker)

Yo,
Airtighty, so I've read my first full free-read book since entering college. I have to say I'm surprised by how hard it is to find free time. I'm getting the hang of it now and have just finished the book "Eyes Wide Open". I started this book as a free demo on ibooks. I fell for the trap, I know, It's sad but the book was really good and I enjoyed it thus far so it was worth the scam. I love all Ted Dekker books. there is not a single novel of his I have disliked thus far. The man is just brilliant. The thing I like most about this book is nearly all of them are connected somehow. He has his own universe created and every novel falls into it. I was, once again, amazed to find that at the end of the book that I had read a character before. Everyone is liked and connected.
So, "Eyes Wide Open" specifically was an amazing read. I loved the book. It is a story about how two teenagers get admitted
into a mental rehabilitation center. Why? Because they knew too much of corse. Throughout their attempts to escape and get back to their lives the two are made to think in a different way. What if they are crazy? What if everything is a dilution? Is any of this real? Did I really make up that life I claim to have? It was very powerful and messed with my head a lot.
This book argued good vs evil (as all of the lovely Dekker's books do) as well as the laws of nature vs the laws of God. I really enjoyed this novel and it is a great read for anyone really unless yo dislike thinking during your off time. If you don't like to think I suggest turing on "Two and a Half Men" and relaxing for a bit. If that doesn't strike your fancy, pick up this book somewhere. The more Dekker Books you read, the more they all make sense. It is a wonderful thing, I swear.
So, I'd give this book 4.5 / 5 stars. I don't really give 5 /5 stars generously. But the book was amazing, I really enjoyed it. I may have to purchase a hard copy so I can admire it on my shelf...One can never have enough Ted Dekker novels!

Ramayana (Narayan rendition)

Hello all!
First of all, I would like to say that, yes, I am doing a mild, book review. I betcha Josh didn't see this coming. I'm actually doing what I said I was going to. So, I just finished the Ramayana for my Literary Imaginations class. All of my time has been taken up in reading assignments and other college responsibilities so this is the only book I'm actually managed to finished in the past few weeks. Sad, I know.
Anyway, The Ramayana one of the Hindu Holy Books. The story begins with some backstory and legends but after a few chapters it gets down to business. So, Ravana, the 10 headed god, managed to usurp all kinds of power from the other gods and used it to overtake the land, sea and heavens. So, now Ravana is the supreme ruler and everyone is scared to death. The other gods beg Vishnu, the supreme god, to help them. Vishnu complied and incarnates as a human, the son of a king, by the name of Rama. Rama, being mortal, is unaware of his real status, but knows that it is his life's mission to defeat all evil in the world. Since much of the evil in the world was an extension of Ravana's ruling, Rama decided it was his mission to defeat this god that had overtaken the earth. Rama sets off, determined to beat the horrifying odds of one mortal man against an all-powerful god.
So that's the gist of it. (I didn't spoil anything that is all included within the first few chapters.) I loved this book. It is a story of daring, good vs evil, love, friendship, promises, and family. I really enjoyed this story that has shaped hindu culture. It is a great read and I would recommend it to nearly anyone. I'd probably give it 4 stars our of 5. I'm picky like that ;)
Bam. First review done. I reeeeeally hope I did it right. If not, Joshi will be sure to let me know, haha. Hope you get the chance to read this awesome book!
